Long term admirers of this page (there aren't many of you, and you know who you are) will remember that last year SFS was short Nick Saban and Alabama.

For the whole year. And I was wrong for the first 12 games of the season. I just thought they were overachieving and weren't as good as their record showed.

'Bama finally did lose their final two games of the season, including a decisive loss to Utah of all teams in their bowl game.

As this article points out, expectations now heading into the 2009 season could not be higher for Saban and Alabama. Which is kind of curious as they have to replace long time starter John Parker Wilson at QB.

Last year my main thesis on Saban was that good things happen to good people, and bad things happen to bad people.

I think I was a year early. Expect a 5 loss season in 2009 for the Crimson Tide.

I really think this is a stretch. Yes they both are uber confident, brash, and arrogant but there is a critical difference here:

Kiffin, at age 33, has accomplished nothing as either a football player or a head football coach.

Spurrier, when he became HBC at Florida in 1990 at age 45, had a Heisman Trophy, a 10-year NFL career, and previous professional and college football head coaching experience on his resume.

Along with taking perennial laughingstock Duke to the ACC championship in 1989, he also had a brief but successful stint as head coach of the USFL's Tampa Bay Bandits.

Lane Kiffen had a 5-15 coaching record in a little over a year as coach of the Oakland Raiders.

Every year the release of top prospects' Wonderlic scores are a source of amusement and often amazement for the hardcore NFL football fan.

The Wonderlic is a type of intelligence or IQ test, and I'm continually surprised this shit becomes public, year in year out. You'd figure there'd be a way for the NFL to keep this often extremely embarrassing shit private--but I guess not.

This year it seems like Florida's Percy Harvin has trouble doing much of anything that requires brain power other than sprinting, evading tackles, and catching footballs. Of course, that's about 99.99% of what it takes for a WR in the NFL to succeed, anyway.

Something tells me the guy will have no problem procreating, either, but that's a whole different story.

I mean, in all likelihood neither Terrel Owens or Randy Moss--generally regarded as the league's two best receivers--spend many nights reading Dostoyevsky or racking their brains over their annual CO2 carbon footprint.

Why does this shit become public? Is it a weird form of marketing for the NFL (I mean, here I am typing about it)? Is it an attempt to gain contract negotiations leverage by the teams? Anyone have any idea on this? Comments appreciated!
